Radial Shockwave Therapy, Part 1 - How It Works and What to Expect
Persistent tendon or heel pain can be frustrating. You may have rested, stretched, changed your footwear or tried exercises, only for the pain to return as soon as you increase your activity again.
At PhysioHub, we use radial shockwave therapy as part of a structured rehabilitation programme for selected, persistent musculoskeletal conditions. Treatment is delivered using our STORZ MEDICAL MASTERPULS® R-SW100. This is a high-quality radial shockwave system designed specifically for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain and tendon problems.
Tendon Masterclass - Part 2. Optimal loading
Load management: finding the tendon’s starting point
Early tendon rehabilitation often involves identifying which activities are currently overloading the tendon, then potentially temporarily reducing or modifying these.
That doesn't necessarily mean stopping everything.
For a runner with Achilles tendon pain, for example, we might temporarily reduce sprinting, hills or total mileage while maintaining some easier running or alternative cardiovascular exercise.
For a gym-goer with shoulder tendon pain, we might temporarily modify heavy overhead pressing without stopping their entire gym programme.
We then introduce exercises at a level the tendon can currently tolerate.
The aim is to find the appropriate starting dose of load and progressively build from there.
Tendon Masterclass Part 1: Healthy Tendons, Tendinopathy and How We Rebuild Them
Achilles pain, tennis elbow, jumper's knee, hip and rotator cuff problems all have one thing in common: tendons. In Part 1 of this series, PhysioHub's tendon specialist Tom O'Sullivan explains what tendinopathy actually is, how it differs from a tendon tear, and why load — not rest — is the key to recovery.
